Dear Starlight Studio Supporter,
What a busy and fulfilling year you helped us to have! Celebrating our 20th birthday with you was a joy and an honor! With your help, our spirited celebration was enjoyed by close to 300 people. The event had it all: live art-making, Karaoke, a human slot machine, lots of delicious cake, AND declarations from Erie County and the State of New York.
Another highlight of the year is our exhibit at UB Center for the Arts, Bits by Bits. The co-curators, Clea Massiani and Emily Ebba Reynolds, masterfully centered their curatorial approach on trust, care and autonomy. “…we see the artists in this exhibition as thinkers and makers engaged in the real work of creative development. Their practices are…deeply embedded in contemporary life; shaped by community, cultural exchange, and curiosity”. This is a fitting description of the work made by Angelina Blackmer, one of the artists in the show. Like you, the curators get us and understand the value of Starlight Studio!
Thank you supporter, for always encouraging us to go further in discovering what the artists need and want. To this end, in January we launched a small studio program within Stitch Buffalo for the Starlight artists most interested in textile arts. One of the newest artists there, Cai Williams, is developing concepts for garment design.
You might be asking, what will 2026 bring? With your support, we will open another art studio at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. This one will focus on Digital Art. Immersed in the art museum, we will have full use of their Digital Media classroom. Like the other studio Starlight has at the AKG, artists will draw knowledge and inspiration from the AKG Art collection and become deeper members of the AKG community as resident artists and volunteers.
