Discover the beauty that makes the ordinary extraordinary in Vazquez-Stevens’ photographs.

The practice of photography is an exercise in mindfulness for Elisa Vazquez-Stevens. She began her photographic journey to seek out small instances of joy in a world turned upside-down. Each photo became an opportunity to appreciate the everyday; a challenge to be truly present in a moment as it occurred. Slowly, she found that the very practice of the art itself had become its own joy.

Artist Statement

Photography has been for me an exercise in mindfulness. Rooted in the deaths of loved ones, I began my photographic journey as a means to seek out small instances of joy in a world turned upside-down. Each photo became an opportunity to appreciate the everyday around me; a challenge to be truly present in a moment as it occurred. Slowly, I found that the very practice of the art itself had become a joy of its own.
This collection aims to convey to its viewers a sense of wonder. Ordinary scenes are presented in a way that draws one to ponder what otherwise might have gone unnoticed. The papery wrinkling of tree bark, the curly tendrils of downy moss, dewdrops on leaves long departed from limbs... images that evoke the senses beyond what our eyes can grasp. I welcome you to join me in discovering the beauty that makes the ordinary extraordinary.
