Shamika came to Starlight in 2012 and immediately impressed all with her expert hand in portraiture. In her use of colored pencil and charcoal she demonstrates a proficiency and sensitivity to light and value. Furthermore, she has a talent for creating keen and engaging compositions. Shamika identifies video games, animation and graphic design as influences of her art work as well as her love of gospel music, R&B, hip hop and oldies.

The same words that have been used to describe Samika’s art can be used to describe her: spiritual, peaceful, complex, strong, beautiful and detail-oriented.
